BITMAGE GOTHIC FONT DESIGN

Insight: Bitmap is arguably one of the most underrated styles in type and rarely used in graphic design. But with the popularity of retro video games mainstreaming in media it has gained traction. A perfect chance to re-explore, reinvent, and a chance to learn different styles of bitmap.

Having a fondness for video games, and the gothic aesthetic I started my research by taking inspiration from Castlevania 1986 gothic aesthetic. Blackletter, known for its variations in eras, styles, and angular edges, screams fantasy. Both styles that are different, but share similarities that could create a whimsical typeface for a role playing game.
